Turn your Australian history lesson from stressful to engaging and peaceful

You find a good book and think, “This could work…”
Then you realise you still need to work out what to read, when to read it, what your child should narrate, what they should map, how to use a Book of Centuries, and how you're going to cover the year.
So Australian history gets squeezed in when you have the time.
Or put off until next term.
Or next year.
And the longer it goes on, the harder it is to shake that nagging feeling that your children are learning the history of everyone else's country while missing the story of their own.

The problem is turning those books into an actual history course.
Which books should you use? In what order? How much should you read each week? What should your child narrate? What should they map? How do you use a Book of Centuries? And what about exams?
Southern Stories takes three carefully chosen living books and turns them into a complete year of Australian History—so you don't have to spend your evenings figuring it all out yourself.
You might be thinking “I can just put it together myself.”
Of course you can.
You could choose the books, work out a reading schedule, create narration prompts, find mapping resources, plan your century chart, come up with exams and think of excursions.
But you don't have to spend your Sundays planning anymore
Southern Stories has already done that work for you.
You get to open the lesson, know exactly what you're doing, and get on with homeschooling.
I hear you when you say “My teenager doesn't need another boring history curriculum.”
Honestly? Neither do we.
This isn't a textbook full of facts to memorise or a pile of worksheets to get through.
It's built around Charlotte Mason's living-books approach, using stories of real people and events to explore Australia's history from 1650–1800.
This isn't the ‘just read a nice story and call it school’ approach. There is still work to do.There are readings, narrations, mapping, exams and keeping track of the story.
But the aim isn't to make history feel like another subject to survive.
It's to give your teenager a chance to encounter the people and stories that shaped the country they call home.
When we first started homeschooling our kids nearly seven years ago I was very quickly drawn to the life giving approach of Charlotte Mason
There were some years where we just skipped Australian history all together because it got put in the too hard basket, and other years where we read a book - but that's all we did there was no life in the lesson - no connections being made.

That's where these lesson plans come in. Done for you plans that include thoughtful narration prompts suited to highschoolers ( not just tell me what you read), mapping prompts, book of century and century chart prompts, excursion ideas, and exam questions.
This is a full years worth of Australian history lessons studying to time period of 1650-1800, written directly to your student so they can work independently or you can chose to work together as a family.

At the moment there is one years worth of Australian history for the time period of 1650-1800 AD, with more lessons coming for other time periods.
Absolutely! You can just read a book and narrate and your children would have a good education, but I have found from personal experience that children are way more engaged when there is a narration prompt. There are also mapping prompts, book of century prompts, century chart and exam questions and extra viewing prompts. All of these things were included my Charlotte Mason in her edducating of children - it just means you don't need to remeber to organise them yourself.
This is a digital download. So no waiting around to use your new curriculum! Just download, print (or not) and away you go.
As this is a digital download, there are no refunds on purchases.
Well, that's entirely up to you. You know your child best and whether or not they can work independently. The lessons are written directly to the student to facilitate independent work, however i recommend a weekly check in with your child.
